| TAHLEE ROUILLON |
Tahlee is an incredibly talented and inspiring woman! I absolutely LOVE her musical creations, they’re so blissful, calming and heavenly. I soak them up whenever I can- as part of my self-care rituals to infuse a little more peace into my day, or just to create a beautiful, relaxed atmosphere.
Tahlee Rouillon is music composer extraordinaire at Sonesence. She offers peace seekers an easy way to achieve calm with a sonic shortcut called meditones. After going through many difficult changes, Tahlee created The Gentle Transition for other sensitive souls struggling with change (who want to feel a whole lot better). She also creates bespoke meditation music for wellness entrepreneurs and hangs out on Instagram a lot.
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO JUST GO FOR IT, AND START LIVING THE LIFE YOU LOVE? WAS THERE A TURNING POINT OR AN ‘A-HA’ MOMENT IN YOUR LIFE WHEN YOU REALISED YOU NEEDED TO MAKE THE CHANGE?
It had been 4 years since I’d written any music. In that time I had been promoted to Environmental Project Manager at a corporate job, left it to pursue Personal Training, and then started a body love coaching business. For four years, I struggled with an existential crisis. Who was I without music? It had been my lifeline for decades and now I wasn’t writing a single note.
I had huge limiting beliefs around my ability to make music on my own (without a band or musical partner) and I was convinced I couldn’t make a living out of it. I was tired of being a starving artist, but by turning my back on music, now my soul was starved.
Finally, one day I offered to write some personalised meditation music for some coaching clients. Writing music again was like coming home to an old friend. My clients loved it, I loved it – and one track became the seed for Allied Forces – still the most popular meditones album to date.
After that I was hooked. I wanted to close my coaching business down and begin doing full time music again. But then, heartbreakingly, my partner of 12 years and I broke up. I was so lost and empty, I didn’t know what to do. Like all dark nights of the soul, there is pure gold to be found within all the lessons. This painful transition honed my spiritual practice, and beautifully guided me back home to myself. I trusted in my intuition again and launched Sonesence. And I haven’t looked back. Life showed me that when I trust it, good things happen. That when I live in my zone of genius, I and everyone around me benefits.
HOW IS YOUR LIFE DIFFERENT NOW AND WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO YOU?
I am so blessed to be location independent, to be able to write music every day, and to be of deep service. Music has always come through me, so to hear that other people find such solace and healing within the music I channel is utterly humbling. I feel fulfilled and free in a way I never thought possible. It means the world that I have been given such opportunity and I always seek to give back. I do not take this for granted.
WHAT WAS YOUR GREATEST FEAR OR BLOCK (EMOTIONAL, MENTAL OR PHYSICAL) THAT YOU HAD TO OVERCOME TO GET WHERE YOU ARE, AND HOW DID YOU BREAK THROUGH IT?
Gosh, there have been so many! Haha.
Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to meet many great healers and to read many wise words. Self development is something I’ve been obsessed with for decades, purely because I didn’t want to suffer any more.
When I look back on my teenage self, my heart aches for that lost and lonely empath. Overcome with self loathing and anxiety, cursed (actually blessed) with a tender and sensitive heart, seeking desperately for answers and comfort.
One by one, I added tools to my toolkit of healing. Learning to breathe fully; The Enneagram; overcoming panic attacks; discovering meditones; healing the inner child and loving the inner critic; embracing my empathy; meeting spirit guides and busting through limiting beliefs; shadow work, self compassion and self love – all of these things have brought me to a deeper understanding of myself and has healed many wounds.
There has never been one singular block or one single epiphany, but rather small steady steps of progress. Living the life you love is a marathon, not a sprint.
WHAT IS YOUR TRUE ESSENCE? THE NATURAL PART OF YOUR BEING THAT MAKES YOU SPECIAL.
I believe we all share the same essence. And that is one of true peace. When you are able to move away from ego attachments, unkind thoughts, and return to stillness, peace, calm and connection – you are reconnecting to your true self. The more we can all connect to this essence, the more we radiate and ripple good things into the world. As we heal, the world around us is healed. And that is incredibly special.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT YOURSELF?
My zone of genius is translating emotions into music. I love that I seem to just know what kind of music cultivates certain feelings. Empaths are exquisitely attuned to emotions, and I’m so grateful that I’ve embraced that and have been able to channel it into something positive, instead of feeling overwhelmed and desperate to numb.
WHERE DO YOU FIND BEAUTY AND INSPIRATION?
Nature and music.
AS A CHILD, WHAT DID YOU ABSOLUTELY LOVE TO DO?
Ah, that one’s easy. Music! When I was a toddler, I pretended my brother’s tennis racket was a guitar and sang songs to my stuffed animals. When I was 5, I started singing in choirs. I began learning the flute at 10, the guitar at 16, and became a jazz vocalist at 17. Throughout my teens, I played and sang in punk bands, post-rock bands, and acoustic duos. I did a Bachelor of Music at Uni and discovered electronic music production. Music is the thing I can’t not do.
WHAT LIGHTS YOU UP AND WHY?
Again, the answer is music – haha.
Music leaves me in total awe. Those mathematical patterns that explode into dopamine-coated-brainwave-bliss-bombs. How it has the power to move you to tears, to cover you in frissons from head to toe, or make you jump around like crazy with 50,000 total strangers who now feel like friends.
There’s nothing else in the world quite like it.
WHEN LIFE GETS BUSY, OVERWHELMING AND THE NEGATIVITY STARTS TO CREEP IN, HOW DO YOU UNWIND AND ALLOW YOURSELF TO ‘JUST BE’?
I used to be a very ‘yang’ ambitious go-getter. Thankfully these days, instead of pushing through, I’m able to quickly recognise the sensations in my body that signal depletion. It’s so important to rest and recover when that happens.
So I soothe my nervous system. I take time to do the small rituals that make me feel good. Listening to meditones, journaling, being in nature, long naps and Netflix, and spending time with loved ones. By reconnecting to myself, my world, and my people – I’m actually more productive. By honouring the cycles of my energy, I have more of it to spend.
WHAT MESSAGE DO YOU HAVE FOR OTHER WOMEN WHO ARE WANTING TO RECONNECT WITH THEIR OWN NATURAL WAY OF BEING AND FIND THE BEAUTY WITHIN THEMSELVES?
Befriend your brain! It’s so important to learn to trust and love yourself. Letting go of shame, self doubt, and self criticism and replacing it with kind thoughts, an open heart and self compassion is key to remembering how worthy and beautiful you are.
There are so many tools to help you along the way. Of course, I love meditones – but any meditation practice will help. Talking to yourself like you would a best friend, getting still and learning to trust that quiet voice inside you – these will help more than anything to bring you home to yourself.
