| SAMMIE FLEMING |
Sammie is one of those people with such a beautiful, calming nature that you just feel instantly drawn to them. I’m yet to meet her in person, but I feel completely connected to and aligned with her authentic and soulful online presence. I absolutely adore her soft, feminine approach to life and the way she blends her energy healing and wisdom of natural rhythms into her coaching practice. She’s someone I look up to, and I feel so blessed to be sharing her story with you.
Sammie is a life coach and Reiki healer. She loves guiding women who are feeling stuck, stressed or overwhelmed – into a life of calm, ease, connection and clarity. Her mission is to guide women who are feeling disconnected from their true, joy-filled selves, back to that blissful state of knowing that they are absolutely enough, right now, just as they are.
She is obsessed with the moon and weaves her passion of feminine cycles into her coaching, allowing her clients to understand, honour and align with their own rhythms. A hopeless romantic, she strives to live a life of joyful balance, on her own terms – and continually questions what that really means to her.
She has a Bachelor of Communications and is a qualified and certified Beautiful You Life Coach.
Sammie believes that we are all worthy of calm, love-filled, beyond our wildest dreams lives and adores nothing more than supporting women back to that sweet, sweet place.
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO JUST GO FOR IT, AND START LIVING THE LIFE YOU LOVE? WAS THERE A TURNING POINT OR AN ‘A-HA’ MOMENT IN YOUR LIFE WHEN YOU REALISED YOU NEEDED TO MAKE THE CHANGE?
For me, it was more of a gradual process. A series of small realisations that life could be richer, that I could feel more fulfilled. And so life transformed gradually too. The first major step was committing to yoga, a practice that brought me home to myself and allowed me to really shine a light on what was going on inside, every day. By having this space to explore my state of mind, my emotions and my thoughts, I began to get clearer on how I wanted to feel, and consequentially started moving closer to that, bit by bit, with conscious thought and inspired action.
WHAT WAS YOUR GREATEST FEAR OR BLOCK (EMOTIONAL, MENTAL OR PHYSICAL) THAT YOU HAD TO OVERCOME TO GET WHERE YOU ARE, AND HOW DID YOU BREAK THROUGH IT?
When becoming a coach, there was definitely an element of “Am I enough?”. Am I enough to take on this great responsibility and honour of guiding women? Do I know enough? Have I been through enough? I see now, being surrounded with other women on the same mission, that this is so common. Not only in coaching, but in anything new. In fact, I think if we are challenging ourselves to step up, it’s almost definitely going to happen. It’s all part of the process, right?
It took a remembrance that this is my true path in life, the undoubting belief from those around me and a (very nervous!) jump to actually begin.
These thoughts still show up, but I know now, deep down, that they are nothing more that my ego mind attempting to keep me from being out in the world as my best self.
HOW DID OPENING UP AND ‘BEING AUTHENTICALLY YOU’ AFFECT THE PEOPLE AROUND YOU OR YOUR RELATIONSHIPS WITH THEM?
I’ve always considered myself quite open, even as a child.
I believe the real key to intimate relationships (be it friendships, lovers, family) is openness. Truth-telling and real talk. Relationships can develop quickly into beautiful life-long bonds once we allow ourselves to be fully seen, for the real us.
I think it’s important to remember that when we are truly, authentically ourselves, those that truly love us, will love us harder. And those who aren’t for (the real) us, may fall away. And that is absolutely, totally, ok. You are perfect, just as you are.
DID YOU FACE ANY JUDGEMENTS OR CRITICISMS, WHETHER FROM YOURSELF OR OTHERS?
Not really, well, not that I know of :) My experiences, training and lessons during my twenties that have led me to where I am now have been celebrated by those around me, even if it wasn’t always clear to myself (or them) exactly where I was going.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT YOURSELF?
I have learnt to love my softness, my gentleness. For a long time I saw this as a weakness, as the opposite to strength. But now, I can see that the two go hand in hand, and my softness, is actually my strength (hallelujah!).
WHERE DO YOU FIND BEAUTY AND INSPIRATION?
Outside! Mama nature! An essential part of self-care for me is getting out under the trees, or into the ocean. Growing up in small town New Zealand meant days spent in the outdoors, surrounded with mountains and lakes. Living too much of the city life leaves me feeling easily overwhelmed, while being in nature provides me with clarity and inspiration.
AS A CHILD, WHAT DID YOU ABSOLUTELY LOVE TO DO?
I loved to read. During school holidays I would get dropped off a the local library and read all day, devouring book after book until I would get picked up, weighed down by the pile of books I would take home for the week. One of my greatest childhood achievements (at the time) was polishing off all 131 of the Babysitters Club books :)
WHAT LIGHTS YOU UP AND WHY?
I love nothing more than watching a woman transform. Watching her reclaim her true essence, shifting away from the stress and overwhelm, back to the joyous woman she once knew, and always was, deep down.
My fiancé, because he is best friend and greatest encourager.
Travel – I love an adventure, and am always planning where we will go next.
Avocadoes. Seriously addicted.
Coffee! Sometimes I’ll go to sleep excited about my coffee the next morning.
WHEN LIFE GETS BUSY, OVERWHELMING AND THE NEGATIVITY STARTS TO CREEP IN, HOW DO YOU UNWIND AND ALLOW YOURSELF TO ‘JUST BE’?
I call on nature to ground me back into peace. Walks, adventures, dips in the ocean.
Yoga is also a saving grace for me when overwhelm comes knocking… Time after time it’s a good reminder that there is always enough time to look after ourselves. Sometimes I’ll walk into a class feeling a bit frazzled, and glide out with ease, amazed at the transformation that can take place when we move our bodies and consciously quieten the mind.
WHAT MESSAGE DO YOU HAVE FOR OTHER WOMEN WHO ARE WANTING TO RECONNECT WITH THEIR OWN NATURAL WAY OF BEING AND FIND THE BEAUTY WITHIN THEMSELVES?
Lean into what feels good. Notice how your body responds when are in certain situations, our bodies hold such wisdom!
Be ok with being totally, absolutely, you. Which will look different to everybody else. And thank god for that.
Make every effort to speak kind words to yourself. This is such a biggie. An easy way to begin to implement thoughts of loving kindness is to ask – How would I speak to my bestie about this? And speak to yourself in exactly that way. It takes practice, but will become more and more natural over time.
