| RACHEL HOLM |
Rachel is an absolutely beautiful soul! I love her message and the way she completely embodies it, along with her passion for her gorgeous range of holistic healing products that she creates through her brand Hanako Therapies.
(And if you’re one of my special clients, you may just receive some Hanako goodness yourself!)
Rachel’s career began as a professional dancer, model and actor taking her all over the world for 20 years, until she had a calling to continue studies in healing the human energy field. Upon finishing her energetic and spiritual healing diploma she opened a thriving practice “Heart and Grace healing” in Sydney, Australia. Her studies then called her to the USA to train with Gurmukh at Golden Bridge Yoga in Los Angeles to study the technology of kundalini yoga, by master Yogi Bhajan. It was also during her time in the USA that she began studying aromatherapy and the art of apothecary.
Born from this inspirational time was Hanako Therapies, seeing and feeling a need to bring a positive ritual back into our everyday lives where we can take a moment for ourselves to create a sacred space for conscious breath and self love, care and kindness before we start our days. Hanako’s intention is to provide a range of uplifting, supporting and balancing vibrational scents, blends and essences that focus on natures natural healing gifts. Also still a practicing energetic and spiritual healer, her healings combine the use of energy healing, crystal therapy, breath work, meditation, vibrational healing and flower/gem essence healing that leave you feeling empowered, uplifted and inspired.
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO JUST GO FOR IT, AND START LIVING THE LIFE YOU LOVE? WAS THERE A TURNING POINT OR AN ‘A-HA’ MOMENT IN YOUR LIFE WHEN YOU REALISED YOU NEEDED TO MAKE THE CHANGE?
After having our lives tipped upside down in 2011 when we lost our firstborn, life took on a whole new perspective. While I had always thought I appreciated life, I think this was even more so a calling to now to live our lives to the fullest and be the best possible humans we could be. I think like most life changing events, something shifts within you. You can’t go back to be the same person you were before. It really was a time of setting new foundations and growing together in honour of her and for her and ourselves.
I have always felt quite lucky in my life. My parents have always supported both myself and my brother to follow our dreams, and encouraged us on our paths. For over 20 years I worked as a professional dancer, travelling the world and landing absolute dream jobs so work for me has never really been thought of as work. I had been wanting to study Energetic and Spiritual healing for a few years before I did, then after Sierra passing, it was a huge push to go and do it. I knew in my heart it was time….. The rest is history.
HOW IS YOUR LIFE DIFFERENT NOW AND WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO YOU?
I feel life is a lot more balanced now. I feel very challenged but also very content with where I am at and what I am doing. I love being a mother, wife, home runner and business owner. I love creativity, obviously coming from a dance background, so being able to be with my girls and family but also getting to be creative daily ignites my fire. I think being a Mother, it’s important to also do things that feed and nourish you. Not that you don’t get nourished from your own family of course but something that is something just for you. I make my own hours and I invest my time where it is needed most at any given moment to keep the balance.
WHAT WAS YOUR GREATEST FEAR OR BLOCK (EMOTIONAL, MENTAL OR PHYSICAL) THAT YOU HAD TO OVERCOME TO GET WHERE YOU ARE, AND HOW DID YOU BREAK THROUGH IT?
Before Sierra was born, I had picked up the The Energetic and Spiritual Healing module and the study schedule and looked at what it would all entail. I was worried about how I would do the study and be a new Mum, so I left it for few months. Of course after she passed I knew I had to do it. She really was a guiding light and teaching us, what have you got to lose from now on and to take leaps of Faith, I knew this was meant to be. Just commit and it’ll work itself out. This was a major turning point in lives. From then on we have just gone for it. If you feel there is something that you need to do and you’re passionate about it and you know it’ll benefit your life…. Just do it. Don’t try and figure out every detail, just do it and it’ll flow.
HOW DID OPENING UP AND ‘BEING AUTHENTICALLY YOU’ AFFECT THE PEOPLE AROUND YOU OR YOUR RELATIONSHIPS WITH THEM?
I actually can’t say there was a massive shift in friends or family. It was just a natural progression in life for me. I still have the same friends from when I was 5 years old and I still have all my dance friends and my family are ever supporting. I think if you’re friends are true friends it doesn’t matter what you do or go on to do, they’ll always be there. I love seeing how everyone’s lives change and evolve. If you’re being true to yourself then it allows others to be true to themselves too. If a friendship starts to fade away then I guess it’s a natural progression. They’ll always come back if it’s meant to be.
DID YOU FACE ANY JUDGEMENTS OR CRITICISMS, WHETHER FROM YOURSELF OR OTHERS?
Not that I know of, and if so, then it’s their problem not mine. :)
WHAT IS YOUR TRUE ESSENCE? THE NATURAL PART OF YOUR BEING THAT MAKES YOU SPECIAL.
Fun, loving, loyal, cheeky, adventurous and intuitive.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT YOURSELF?
I love who I am, I love what I live for and I love my spirit. When I get knocked down, I seem to be able to find my way to get back up and stand even taller. The moments that may seem like they are filled with darkness and chaos are the moments that you find out more about yourself, who you are and what your heart beats for.
WHERE DO YOU FIND BEAUTY AND INSPIRATION?
I find beauty and inspiration in Nature….. Always. Hence bringing that beauty and magic into our products for Hanako. I love nothing more than being in nature and feeling the Earth beat, listening to the music of nature and watching the rhythm of life. I find it deeply peaceful and rejuvenating. There was a place called Canyonlands in Utah that we visited and I was in awe, there was not another person around and the silence was almost deafening. It was absolutely incredible.
AS A CHILD, WHAT DID YOU ABSOLUTELY LOVE TO DO?
As a child I absolutely loved to dance and I knew I wanted to be a dancer from the age of 2. You couldn’t stop me and as I got older I would watch A Chorus Line over and over and copying the choreography and pretend I was in it. Luckily for me, dedication and hard work paid off, and I got to perform in my dream jobs.
WHAT LIGHTS YOU UP AND WHY?
A tap class, yoga class, my work, my family, my friends, travel and learning healing arts. Experiencing and learning new things will forever be a part of me and keeps my light burning.
WHEN LIFE GETS BUSY, OVERWHELMING AND THE NEGATIVITY STARTS TO CREEP IN, HOW DO YOU UNWIND AND ALLOW YOURSELF TO ‘JUST BE’?
I meditate every day. It will always bring me back to centre and I am way more efficient and effective when I do it. There have been times when I haven’t given myself the time and space to do it and I notice the wheels start to fall off the wagon. So it’s something that I know I need to incorporate in my daily life. Even if it’s just 5 mins of long, deep breathing. I mix it up depending on what’s going on in life.
WHAT MESSAGE DO YOU HAVE FOR OTHER WOMEN WHO ARE WANTING TO RECONNECT WITH THEIR OWN NATURAL WAY OF BEING AND FIND THE BEAUTY WITHIN THEMSELVES?
Follow your heart and listen to your body. What does it need, how does it want to move, what lights you up? Then commit to and make time to do these things. The heart is the inner compass that will guide you if you listen and trust.
HOW DOES IT FEEL TO BE YOU?
Calm and energised at the same time :) I wouldn’t change a colour in my picture so far.
