WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO JUST GO FOR IT, AND START LIVING THE LIFE YOU LOVE? WAS THERE A TURNING POINT OR AN ‘A-HA’ MOMENT IN YOUR LIFE WHEN YOU REALISED YOU NEEDED TO MAKE THE CHANGE?
My a-ha moment that changed the trajectory of my life happened on a drive home from University one night in the middle of winter. I saw a couple that had clearly just picked up their two children from daycare. It was dark, cold, and the fact they had only just seen their children after what I imaged was a long day at work seemed horrible. I started to play out what would unfold, them rushing around with their kids, catching up on the days chores, before collapsing on the couch not having experienced anything.
That moment is one that to this day I still hold so close to me. I realised that, that life wasn’t for me. I knew from that moment I wanted to work for myself, follow my own passion and go against the norm.
This has continued to drive me to do whatever I please, like enrolling in online marketing courses while still studying, being the youngest person to sign up for the Beautiful You Coaching Academy’s life coaching course at that time. And continuing to follow my heart and passion – everyday.
WHAT WAS YOUR GREATEST FEAR OR BLOCK (EMOTIONAL, MENTAL OR PHYSICAL) THAT YOU HAD TO OVERCOME TO GET WHERE YOU ARE, AND HOW DID YOU BREAK THROUGH IT?
My biggest block is my own mind. If I am unaware it can tell me a million and one lies when in reality I am sitting in my car. None of those horrible things have happened but I have already played out all of those scenarios and it starts to affect how I show up in life. Like not signing up for a course that I want to, like not going to the yoga class because it’s easier to cop out, or not rocking that mini dress cos that’s what I want to do.
For me the biggest block was breaking free from my own mind jail, the one that would hold me in analysis paralysis and fearful to make a move. Can I still get caught up in there? Yes I can, but I always look for a way out now.
DID YOU FACE ANY JUDGEMENTS OR CRITICISMS, WHETHER FROM YOURSELF OR OTHERS?
The judgments and criticisms I faced where through my own fears being projected onto those around me. I had to get used to the fact that I wanted to be a life coach at such a young age. And once I got used to that, people came out from everywhere commending me on what I was doing.
Still, there can be people who go “that’s odd”, but in truth I smile, say thanks and know that they aren’t my people. It’s that simple. I stand in my truth for me and that’s important.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT YOURSELF?
Right now in this current moment, I love and am so proud of my devotion to everything I do. Even when it’s difficult, even when I want to shy away, I don’t. And for that I love myself for.
Other things, I love my sense of humour, my beautiful body for all that she is capable of doing, my eyebrows, my nails, my heart, my realness and my sense of fun and adventure in this life – one that is true and authentic for me.
WHERE DO YOU FIND BEAUTY AND INSPIRATION?
The simplest place I find beauty is by being mindful. By connecting and truly being in my body and opening my eyes to what is truly around me. My favourite place to find inspiration is through talking to people. If you listen the people around you are filled with incredible stories, beautiful quirks, loving habits and memories that will take you somewhere you never could have gone before.
WHAT LIGHTS YOU UP AND WHY?
Connection. Connecting to other people, having that crazy “me too!” moment. There is absolutely nothing better than that.
WHEN LIFE GETS BUSY, OVERWHELMING AND THE NEGATIVITY STARTS TO CREEP IN, HOW DO YOU UNWIND AND ALLOW YOURSELF TO ‘JUST BE’?
Yoga and meditation is how I ensure it doesn’t creep too far in. But sometimes if things are getting particularly stressful one yoga class does not help me. It actually ends up making me feel more tightly wound and anxious. It’s like releasing a tightly wrung towel, it wants to curl back into what it feels it’s natural state is.
So it will be a process through many ways of really letting myself unravel. And when I am feeling particular busy, overwhelmed and negative you can bet tears will be involved to release all those thoughts and feelings I’ve been bottling up on the inside.
WHAT MESSAGE DO YOU HAVE FOR OTHER WOMEN WHO ARE WANTING TO RECONNECT WITH THEIR OWN NATURAL WAY OF BEING AND FIND THE BEAUTY WITHIN THEMSELVES?
Pause, take a deep breath, for one moment do nothing and connect to that feeling. That feeling right there is what it’s like to reconnect with you.
Notice in that moment that you felt peaceful, calm? That is your natural way of being beautiful and there is nothing you need to do to prove yourself or no success you need to accomplish to feel that way.
That feeling is open to you at any moment you just have to be aware of it, stop and chose to reconnect, dive in deep.
HOW DOES IT FEEL TO BE YOU?
Some days it feels absolutely amazing, some days I lose touch of what it feels like, and other days I can be doing everything that worked one day but it just isn’t gelling.
All of those answers are the perfect answers for me, and when I honour each of those times in my life I am being the best version of me and the kindest person to my self.
