WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO JUST GO FOR IT, AND START LIVING THE LIFE YOU LOVE? WAS THERE A TURNING POINT OR AN ‘A-HA’ MOMENT IN YOUR LIFE WHEN YOU REALISED YOU NEEDED TO MAKE THE CHANGE?
During my first corporate job, my boss used to tell me about his wife who was a well-known naturopath at the time. I was often unwell and continually taking antibiotics. I finally went to see his wife for a consultation and that really changed my life. I started to feel a lot better and had a real appreciation for natural therapies.
From there, it was a gradual process. Even though I had a great interest in natural therapies, it wasn’t until I had gained life experience, travelled a lot and had been working in the corporate world for some time before I was ready to start making the change. I knew my corporate gig wasn’t going to be forever, but it gave me the opportunity to make some great friends and the flexibility to complete all my studies and start my own business on a part-time basis. When my twins Joshua and Madeline were old enough, I ventured back into working for myself in our local area. Since then, I’ve strived for a healthy work-life balance and I’m really happy that I never gave up on my dream.
HOW IS YOUR LIFE DIFFERENT NOW AND WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO YOU?
My life is so different now. Living a more authentic life doing what I’m so passionate about is really amazing. I never thought it was possible to create my own business and do what I love. This really means the world to me. I know that I’m definitely on the right path when I feel so excited about going to work. I know that I am very blessed!
WHAT WAS YOUR GREATEST FEAR OR BLOCK (EMOTIONAL, MENTAL OR PHYSICAL) THAT YOU HAD TO OVERCOME TO GET WHERE YOU ARE, AND HOW DID YOU BREAK THROUGH IT?
I had all the typical fears. What if I don’t know enough? What if I’m not good enough? What if I fail? There are people who know more than me/are better than me. Breaking through these old patterns did not happen overnight and some of these do still pop up from time to time, but I’m now able to work through them a little better. Having a clear intention on what I wanted to create and continually working on myself helps me stay on track.
HOW DID OPENING UP AND ‘BEING AUTHENTICALLY YOU’ AFFECT THE PEOPLE AROUND YOU OR YOUR RELATIONSHIPS WITH THEM?
This is a tricky one! As with many people, I’ve been on a personal healing journey for some time. I guess you could say I’ve changed quite a bit! As a result of this, some relationships have fallen away, but the flip side is that new people have come into my life who are truly aligned and very supportive of who I am today.
DID YOU FACE ANY JUDGEMENTS OR CRITICISMS, WHETHER FROM YOURSELF OR OTHERS?
I was my own worst critic! I guess there are and will always be judgments from others, and that’s ok. The more I know who I am as a person and a therapist, the more I can hold my own space and own what I do with a smile.
WHAT IS YOUR TRUE ESSENCE? THE NATURAL PART OF YOUR BEING THAT MAKES YOU SPECIAL.
My true essence (when not being attacked by 6 year old twins!) is calm, centred, grounded and love. Sometimes, I have such an overwhelming feeling of love in my heart that it feels it could explode. I absolutely love feeling connections with others. I guess I’ve always been that person who people confide in. This has happened for as long as I can remember. I feel humbled and honoured that people feel comfortable enough to trust me with whatever is going on in their lives at the time, and to help them let go of old blockages or patterns in the hope of feeling better.
I have also have a sense of adventure! Throughout my life I’ve had a tendency to want to explore the world and the people in it. There are so many places to visit, so many people to meet. I certainly did this in my 20s and it felt like absolute freedom and joy at the time. All of these experiences have helped shape me into the person I am today. I still have a flavour of adventure in my life, and we now go exploring the world as a family.
WHERE DO YOU FIND BEAUTY AND INSPIRATION?
I definitely find beauty when spending time in nature. Whether it is at the beach on a lovely sunny day, watching the sun set over the mountains, or watching the full moon glow over the ocean. There is beauty everywhere!
I’m constantly inspired by people. I feel so blessed to know inspirational people in my life (Heidi being one of them!), and it is these people who lift me up, keep me on track and grounded. Isn’t it interesting when you look back on your life and realise there seemed to be the right person or people come into your life to give you guidance or lessons at just the right time?
AS A CHILD, WHAT DID YOU ABSOLUTELY LOVE TO DO?
As a child I absolutely loved my horses. I used to come home from school and ride my little horse Crystal all afternoon. I haven’t owned horses since then, but it was so magical at the time and I felt very lucky to have had that experience. I also loved playing make believe games with my friends. These games could go on for hours as our imaginations ran wild! It was so much fun.
WHAT LIGHTS YOU UP AND WHY?
I will never forget an experience I had not long ago whilst sitting on a train. I was near an elderly gentleman and we didn’t make eye contact or speak to each other, but I felt such a strong heart-felt connection with this stranger I had never met before. It was such a powerful experience that it brought tears to my eyes. It is having these heart-felt connections with others that really light me up. It helps me remember that we are all connected, we are all one and when you become truly aware of this it is just amazing.
How do we experience these emotions or connections with people? It is an exchange of energy. How incredible that we can communicate with others without even a spoken word! There is so much going on in our little worlds, much more than we may be aware of.
WHEN LIFE GETS BUSY, OVERWHELMING AND THE NEGATIVITY STARTS TO CREEP IN, HOW DO YOU UNWIND AND ALLOW YOURSELF TO ‘JUST BE’?
Being a mum to 6 year old twins and now our cute little puppy, it is very important to be able to unwind as life sure gets a little busy! Exercise for me is number one. It helps me to shift any stagnant energy and let go of any negativity from the day. I love taking our puppy for walks outdoors or having a giggle while doing Zumba! There are other times when I need to do more calming activities such as yoga or meditation. This helps me stay connected to my passion of feeling energised, grounded and clear.
WHAT MESSAGE DO YOU HAVE FOR OTHER WOMEN WHO ARE WANTING TO RECONNECT WITH THEIR OWN NATURAL WAY OF BEING AND FIND THE BEAUTY WITHIN THEMSELVES?
Anything is possible. There will always be people who will judge or criticise. Surround yourself with like-minded people who uplift you and who encourage you to be the best you that you can be. If you have a strong intention about what it is you want to create or do, don’t let anything stop you. We need you and your unique qualities to do what it is that you do!
HOW DOES IT FEEL TO BE YOU?
It feels pretty good to be me! Yes life happens and there will always be ups and downs, but I really enjoy my life and feel blessed that I have found my true passion and I have the opportunity to live an authentic and inspired life.
