| JAE SCHAEFER |
My soul sister. I was lucky enough to be buddied up with Jae when I studied at the Beautiful You Coaching Academy and she made my experience of learning to become a Life Coach all the more special. This girl is so incredible, passionate and supportive, and we quickly became super close! I feel so blessed to have her in my life, and I’m so excited to share her with you today!
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO JUST GO FOR IT, AND START LIVING THE LIFE YOU LOVE? WAS THERE A TURNING POINT OR AN ‘A-HA’ MOMENT IN YOUR LIFE WHEN YOU REALISED YOU NEEDED TO MAKE THE CHANGE?
I reached a point where I realised if I continued down the path I was on, my life – if I survived at all – would be of very little significance to anyone. The idea that I could exist and it wouldn’t mean anything or make a difference to the state of the world terrified me enough to get my act together. There wasn’t one particular moment, but more a gradual realisation that I didn’t want to take the conventional path that had been set for me by society. I wanted to break the rules and use my gifts to make a difference in the world rather than perpetuate the consumer culture I saw destroying the environment and people around me.
HOW IS YOUR LIFE DIFFERENT NOW AND WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO YOU?
I can’t even begin to describe the great myriad of ways my life has changed. My life has a deep purpose and meaning that it never had before, my relationships are grounded in respect and unconditional love, I know my worth and honour my strengths and abilities and I feel deeply connected to my higher self and my mission in this lifetime. It means that I can show up in every situation with no apologies for who I am, secure in the knowledge that I am enough and what I have is needed. It means that most of the time, this life feels like a blessing and I am so incredibly grateful my soul chose this experience.
WHAT WAS YOUR GREATEST FEAR OR BLOCK (EMOTIONAL, MENTAL OR PHYSICAL) THAT YOU HAD TO OVERCOME TO GET WHERE YOU ARE, AND HOW DID YOU BREAK THROUGH IT?
There have been so many! But the greatest would be the belief that I wasn’t worthy of the life I dreamed about. I had always thought that success was for “other people” who were smarter, prettier or more intelligent than me. It was like there was this mental barrier I constructed between myself and the happy people who I saw as being “out there” and I spent my time desperately wishing I was one of them while growing increasingly resentful over my lack of resources, talent and opportunity. The revelation came when I realised we are all given a unique purpose – none of which is more valuable or ‘special’ than another – and everything we need to fulfil that purpose already exists inside us, we just have to bring it forth in a way that feels authentic and fills your soul.
HOW DID OPENING UP AND ‘BEING AUTHENTICALLY YOU’ AFFECT THE PEOPLE AROUND YOU OR YOUR RELATIONSHIPS WITH THEM?
The more authentically me I became, the more I attracted like-minded people into my life and the easier it became to form deep and lasting connections. My existing friendships either fizzled out or transformed completely. Although my family noticed the change in me, it took time to heal the damage I had caused through my own unconscious actions. I was fortunate enough to find that most people were willing to accept my apologies and get to know the new me.
WHAT IS YOUR TRUE ESSENCE? THE NATURAL PART OF YOUR BEING THAT MAKES YOU SPECIAL.
We are all made of the same stuff – united by a cosmic energy that connects us to one another that is grounded in goodness, light and unconditional love. What makes me unique is the way I use that inner radiance – by combining my own worldly gifts, talents and life experiences to add value to the lives of those around me.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT YOURSELF?
I love that I’m passionate, that I have strong opinions that I’m willing to fight for. I love that I see the good in people and can “extract their gold” as one of my beautiful girlfriends put it. I love my laugh and the way I eat peanut butter out of the jar. I love my commitment to growth and enlightenment. I love the conviction with which I share my message, while still being so genuinely taken by the way other people see the world. I love that I can be vulnerable and share my story in a way that comforts, heals and encourages. I love that I can meet people in their pain and gently guide them out of it. I love that I’m a fighter. I love that I dream big and take action. I love my eyes. I love that I never shy away from declarations of love. I love the way I dance, I love that I see meaning and beauty in everything. I love the way I treat my friends. I love that I get excited over the little things, I love (and am deeply grateful for) my intuitive abilities and I love that I can write a list like this without feeling the need to justify myself or dim my light!
WHERE DO YOU FIND BEAUTY AND INSPIRATION?
In everyday interactions. People have always been my biggest source of inspiration – the way we relate to one another, the way we feel about ourselves, the way we show up and behave based on our past experiences. Every person is a door to a remarkable new world full of meaning, wisdom and beauty and I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of exploring the depths of every soul I meet.
AS A CHILD, WHAT DID YOU ABSOLUTELY LOVE TO DO?
Dance. Everywhere I went. Write. About everything I saw. And Dream. About everything I could become.
WHAT LIGHTS YOU UP AND WHY?
Seeing my clients have breakthroughs, and knowing the trajectory of their life is about to radically change because of it. Getting emails or speaking to people who read my blog or email newsletter saying it changed their perspective on something, gave them hope and guidance when they needed it most or helped them get closure on something painful from their past. Part of my purpose is changing the way people think; breaking down old patterns and beliefs to make way for new ones, and to know I’ve achieved that through my writing, speaking or coaching makes me glow internally.
WHEN LIFE GETS BUSY, OVERWHELMING AND THE NEGATIVITY STARTS TO CREEP IN, HOW DO YOU UNWIND AND ALLOW YOURSELF TO ‘JUST BE’?
Meditation. I have a ‘Stop. Drop and Meditate’ practice that allows me to, wherever I am, close my eyes and take ten deep breaths. Even if I have to sneak into a toilet cubicle or dodge weird looks on public transport, it brings me back home when I’ve deviated from my true path.
WHAT MESSAGE DO YOU HAVE FOR OTHER WOMEN WHO ARE WANTING TO RECONNECT WITH THEIR OWN NATURAL WAY OF BEING AND FIND THE BEAUTY WITHIN THEMSELVES?
Start practicing yoga and meditating for ten minutes every morning. Get out in nature as much as you can. Keep a journal where you can process your thoughts and tap into your subconscious and write a list of all the things you love about yourself and put it somewhere you can read it every day (and hire Heidi as your coach asap!).
HOW DOES IT FEEL TO BE YOU?
Some days, pretty freaking amazing. Others, deeply painful and scary. But the duality of the experience is what I love about it. It’s why we’re here; to experience the darkness so we can know ourselves as light.
