| ANGELA SIMSON |
Angela is such a beautiful soul and someone who has really inspired me over the past few years to shift my perspective and be grateful for absolutely everything I have in my life. I love her fun-loving attitude towards life and the way she empowers women to live each day full of appreciation for what we have and who we are. I feel especially connected to her message “Gratitude turns what we have into enough, sometimes we just need to clear the fog to see the magic right in front of us.”
Angela Simson is a female health + happiness coach, writer and speaker. She is the creator of The Gratitude Project blog which inspires thousands of women to step into their light and live their best life. Angela is also the mind behind 30 DAYS OF SELF CARE and THE GRATITUDE TRANSFORMATION and has added cacao filled joy into many kitchens with her recipe book TREAT YOUR TASTEBUDS. WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO JUST GO FOR IT, AND START LIVING THE LIFE YOU LOVE? WAS THERE A TURNING POINT OR AN ‘A-HA’ MOMENT IN YOUR LIFE WHEN YOU REALISED YOU NEEDED TO MAKE THE CHANGE?
When I had my baby girl Bo I knew that eventually it would be the decision of either going back to work or pulling on my big girl pants and building an empire on my own. The latter meant that I got to be with Bo, show her what a mother can do and finally be doing something that I wanted to do, on my terms… So it was the obvious choice! Then TGP just evolved from there. It was an idea sitting in my car, moved onto an Instagram page, a blog and now it’s what it is today!
HOW IS YOUR LIFE DIFFERENT NOW AND WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO YOU?
I work more, but I hustle because there is heart behind it. Life is different in so many ways just through becoming a mother, but if you take the girls out of the equation, life is different because everyday I get to connect with people, help them become healthier, happier and build businesses that they love and adore. It’s work that touches my heart and I get to talk to freaking awesome girls about what sets them on fire. It’s amazing.
WHAT WAS YOUR GREATEST FEAR OR BLOCK (EMOTIONAL, MENTAL OR PHYSICAL) THAT YOU HAD TO OVERCOME TO GET WHERE YOU ARE, AND HOW DID YOU BREAK THROUGH IT?
Everyone has the ‘I’m not good/smart/brave/pretty enough’ blocks in their life. But I wanted this so bad that it didn’t even matter. I truly believe if you really want something and your WHY is big enough, you just cut through the bull and get it done. You work late nights, you miss being up to date with the latest Netflix series and you prioritise the dream for an amount of time to do it. The main component is the why. I didn’t want to put Bo into daycare young to go to a job that wasn’t my hearts calling. I wanted to be with my girls and be a role model for them. My why was bigger than any fear.
HOW DID OPENING UP AND ‘BEING AUTHENTICALLY YOU’ AFFECT THE PEOPLE AROUND YOU OR YOUR RELATIONSHIPS WITH THEM?
I definitely lost some relationships, which is what happens when you let yourself be your best you. It’s intimidating and some people thrive on comfort, I didn’t want to make people comfortable anymore. But I’ve developed 10 times as many new, heart centred, judgement free relationships that I wouldn’t give up for the world. It’s hard, but the pay off is great.
DID YOU FACE ANY JUDGEMENTS OR CRITICISMS, WHETHER FROM YOURSELF OR OTHERS?
Many! That I couldn’t make money from this industry was a big one. But again, my why was big and so was my drive. So I worked at it like a maniac to the point that my husband got to quit his corporate job and follow his dream off my income. Now we both work from home, with our girls close to us and we get to consciously construct our life based on our terms.
WHAT IS YOUR TRUE ESSENCE? THE NATURAL PART OF YOUR BEING THAT MAKES YOU SPECIAL.
I think I’m just honest. I don’t sugar coat anything, I’m not interested in making you happy now, I’m interested in teaching you what you need to know so that you can make yourself healthy, happy and abundant. So the Yang element of me is brutally honest, but my Yin side is simply love. I do this because it comes from love, even if people find it hard at times.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT YOURSELF?
My get it done attitude.
WHERE DO YOU FIND BEAUTY AND INSPIRATION?
I love social media. It can definitely be poison if used incorrectly, but follow the right pages, read the right posts and it takes you to a level of total inspiration and motivation.
AS A CHILD, WHAT DID YOU ABSOLUTELY LOVE TO DO?
Draw, act and dance.
WHAT LIGHTS YOU UP AND WHY?
My family, all day everyday.
WHEN LIFE GETS BUSY, OVERWHELMING AND THE NEGATIVITY STARTS TO CREEP IN, HOW DO YOU UNWIND AND ALLOW YOURSELF TO ‘JUST BE’?
I get my husband to give me a talking to! I deal with all of the above everyday, because I’m human. But when I need to just disconnect I get into the sun to get my energy. As much skin as possible in direct sunlight seriously illuminates my soul.
WHAT MESSAGE DO YOU HAVE FOR OTHER WOMEN WHO ARE WANTING TO RECONNECT WITH THEIR OWN NATURAL WAY OF BEING AND FIND THE BEAUTY WITHIN THEMSELVES?
Stop with the negative stories. You can tell yourself everyday that you’re not worthy because… You’re not pretty because someone else is. You’re not smart because you can’t work out how to create a website. But it’s been said many times, if we judge a fish on it’s ability to climb a tree it will live it’s whole life believing it’s stupid. I can’t do MANY things, that doesn’t mean I let it get me down. I focus on what I can do, what I do have and what is wonderful in my life. I can only encourage the same. Be kind to yourself like you are to your best friend, sister, mother and children. Stop treating yourself like garbage in your mind, that’s the only way to stop feeling like it.
HOW DOES IT FEEL TO BE YOU?
Overwhelming, fun, confusing, blessed and amazing all at once.
